Accuracy comparison of creatinine clearance rate predicted by Cockcroft-Gault formula with the actual body weight or the ideal body weight

ABSTRACT  Objective: To study the accuracy of creatinine clearance rate (Ccr) predicted by Cockcroft-Gault (C-G) formula with the actual body weight or the ideal body weight.Methods: The clinical data of 51 patients hospitalized in the Department of Nephrology of Shanghai Tongji Hospital were included in the study.Creatinine clearance rates(Ccra,Ccri) were predicted by C-G formula with the actual body weight or the ideal body weight.The correlation between the Ccrs and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) predicted by MDRD formula and corrected by body surface area was analyzed.The correlation coefficient of Ccra-GFR(ra) and Ccri-GFR (ri) was compared.Stratified comparisons were made according to the body mass index(BMI).Results: In the patients with normal body weight,ra was closer to 1,and in overweight and obese patients,ri was closer to 1.Conclusion: In the patients with normal body weight,the Ccr predicted by C-G formula with the actual body weight was better.However,in those with overweight and obese,the Ccr predicted by C-G formula with the ideal body weight was better.
